Miscellaneous Information
George was born at Winnipeg on 22 August 1923. His mother and father were both born at Wick in Scotland and his father worked as a checker in the CPR freight sheds. The schools George attended were Dufferin and Victoria - Albert 1930-1937 and Daniel McIntyre 1937-1939 (Commercial Grade XI). His hobby was reading and he enjoyed horseback riding. He worked for three months as a delivery boy for Jewel Stores Ltd. during 1941 and then as a carpenter, 1941-1942 for MacDonald Bros., aircraft manufacturers, Winnipeg. |
George enlisted on 18 December 1942, and after initial training embarked from Halifax on 22 October 1943. Arriving in the U.K. at 3 (RCAF) PRC on 31 October 1943 he then went to 16 OTU 16 November 1943, 51 Base 2 February 1944 and finally 9 Squadron on 13 May 1944. Sadly, he was to lose his life just ten days after arrival, on 23 May 1944. |
