Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born on 1 December 1920 at Fort William, Ontario. His father was born in Derbyshire and was a superintendent at North Western Elevators in Fort William and his mother was born at Coldstream, Ontario. He had four brothers, Clive, Floyd, Roy and Donald, as well as a sister Doris. The schools he attended were Francis Street School, 1926-1933 (regular) and Fort William Collegiate. 1933-1939 (Snr. Matric). His sport interests were many, including hockey, football, swimming, golf and tennis. Robert worked at the Federal Grain Co. as an electrician’s assistant from 1939 onwards. |
Robert enlisted on 23 October 1940 and after early training embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 21 July 1941. He was then at 3PRC on 16 August 1941, 23 OTU 23 August 1941, and 142 Squadron 18 October 1941. Sadly he lost his life from 142 Squadron on 18 January 1942 . |
