| Reason for Aircraft Loss | At around 2205, the crew returned to base. Permission to land had been granted. However, whilst flying the cross wind leg, the airfield controller ordered a red Verey cartridge be fired, as another aircraft was blocking the flight path. Observers on the ground watched the Wellington turn steeply to port, before plunging out of control, into the sea near the airfield |
