Miscellaneous Information
| Realising their mistake, the Spitfires escorted the remaining Hampdens to RAF Drem, their own station, where they are said to have stayed the night. According to the RAF Drem history published on their website, the next morning after having taken off, the Hampdens turned and roared back over the airfield at full-throttle, bombing the 602 Squadron quarters with hundreds of toilet rolls! A board of inquiry absolved the 602 Squadron pilots of any responsibility. |
