End Date | 11-09-1942 |
Takeoff Station | Wing |
Day/Night Raid | Night (0% moon) |
Operation | Dusseldorf |
Reason for Loss | Airborne 20:56 armed with 4 x 500lb of bombs, to bomb a target in Düsseldorf. The aircraft was attacked from below by a night fighter, whose canon shells severed petrol and oil pipes and set alight to the fuselage. Communication between the crew was impossible as the blaze destroyed the intercom system. Out of control, the aircraft crashed at around 00:15 some 500 metres SW of Overhetfeld, on the NW side of Niederkrüchten. |
