Miscellaneous Information
Roy was born on 9 November 1919 at Bellingham Washington, USA. His father was a Telegrapher for the Canadian Press and was born in Maxville, California, his mother was born in Ireland. He had six siblings Sheila, Eileen and Pat and three brothers Russel, George and Harry. Russel was in the RCNVR. Roy attended the Buena Vista School 1929-1936 (grade 8) and the Saskatoon Technical Collegiate 1938-1939 (Special motor mechanics). His sporting interest was swimming. He worked as a motor mechanic between 1939-1940 at Irvine’s Master Services and in 1940 at Boyd Services. He had also spent three years as both a mechanic and in the services department of Auto Cleaning. |
Roy enlisted on 18 January 1941 and after training embarked from Canada on 30 April 1942 arriving in the U.K. at 3 PRC on 14 May 1942. He was at 415 Sqn 11June 1942, 1654 CU 1 October 1942, 83 Sqn 18 October 1942. |
