Miscellaneous Information
Roy was born on 26 May 1924 at Plattsville, Ontario. Both parents were born in England, his father was a factory worker and was born in Norfolk and his mother born in Buckingham. He had two sisters Helen and Edith. Edith had sadly died back in 1922. He also had two brothers, Alvin, and Leslie. R/145777 LAC Alvin Fulcher was stationed at RAF Coningsby. The schools he attended were Plattsville Public, 1930-1937 and then Plattsville Continuation, 1937-1941 (12 Matric). He also went to Woodstock Collegiate, 1941-1942 on a commercial night class. Roy enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and softball. He had several jobs during 1941: he was a farm helper for Ernest Stauffer, a Mill helper for James Cullen until the work was finished. He then became an office clerk for Hay and Co. at Woodstock and was there until enlisting on 22 August 1942. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 1 November 1943, arriving at 3 RCAF(PRC) on 10 November. He then continued to 6(0) AFU on 8 February 1944, 17 OTU 21 March 1944, 51 Base 11 June 1944, 61 Squadron 31 August 1944 and then on to 189 Squadron 22 October 1944. Sadly Roy was to lose his life the following year on 2 February 1945. |
