Miscellaneous Information
John was born on 5 February 1921 at Saskatoon. His parents were both born in England, his father in Norfolk and he was a farmer. His sport interests were softball, skating and skiing and his hobby was working on motors and tractors. He worked in farming 1937-1941, when he then enlisted on 23 July 1941 as an Engine mechanic. |
John embarked from Canada on 1 May 1942 for the U.K. and arrived at 3 PRC on 14 May. He went on to 415 Sqn on 11 June 1942, 1654 CU 3 November 1942, and 106 Squadron 5 February 1943. Sadly, John was to lose his life from there, less than two weeks later on 18 February 1943. |

Reason for Loss | Aircraft took off from Syerston at 1815 hrs detailed to attack targets in Wilhelmshaven. Probably collided with ED330 after the latter was hit by flak with the result that it lurched and collided with R5750. Crashed between Coldewei & Altengroden near Wilhelmshaven at 20.47hrs. |
