| Joseph was born at St. John’s, Newfoundland on 14 April 1924. His father was a Bailiff born at St. John’s and his mother was born at Placentia, Newfoundland. He had brothers Edward, Dermot and John as well as five sisters: rgaret, Mary MacEachern, Rose, Patricia, and Theresa. He attended St. Bonaventure College at St. John’s, 1929-1941 (grade X). He liked playing hockey and swimming and his hobby was woodwork. Joseph worked as an office boy at Fort Pepparrel, St. John between 1941 and 1943 and then in the Department of Public Works, St. John where he was a Grade 3 clerk, between February and August 1943. |
| He enlisted on 1 September 1943 at St John’s and after training embarked for the U.K.on 3 May 1944. He arrived at 3 PRC on 10 May and then went to 20 OTU 20 June 1944, 41 Base 15 September 1944, 1669 CU. 20 October 1944 and 5 LFS on 17 December 1944. Joseph sadly lost his life from 5LFS on 29 January 1945. |
