Miscellaneous Information
Wilfred was born at Toronto on 7 February 1914. Both parents were born in Scotland and his father was unemployed. He had brothers William and Andrew and two sisters Florence and Catherine. The schools he attended were Perth Avenue, Public school 1920-1927 followed by High School of Commerce, 1927-1929 (Accountancy). His sport interests were skating, baseball and track. Wilfred worked at Wonder Bakeries in the office as a clerk/cashier between 1929-1940 and then as a Salesman at Tip Top Tailors Ltd. between 1940-1942. |
On 8 September 1942 he enlisted and after training embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 13 September 1943. He arrived at 3 PRC on 20 September 1943, 9(0)AFU 9 November 1943, 16 OTU on 25 January 1944, 51 Base 26 April 1944 and at 630 Squadron on 16 July 1944. Sadly, Wilfred was to lose his life on 27 August 1944. |
