Miscellaneous Information
Donald was born on 31 March 1925 in Toronto. Both parents were born in Toronto and his father worked as a chauffeur. He had a brother William John and sisters Roberta and Helen. The schools he attended were Niagara Street, Toronto 1930-1939 (general course) followed by Central Technical, Toronto 1939-1941 (Industrial). His sport interests were hockey, baseball and basketball. Donald worked in refrigeration for Perrin & Turner 1941-1941. For Delaney & Pettit, Toronto, Wood Wool dealers. 1941-1942 and then as a machine operator with National Cash Register from 1942 until enlisting. |
He enlisted on 8 March 1943 and after training embarked from Halifax on 14 December 1943. After arriving at 3 (RCAF) PRC in the U.K. on 22 December 1943 he went to 28 OTU 1 February 1944, 11 Base 15 May 1944, and 103 Squadron 8 July 1944. Sadly, at the age of nineteen, this young man was to lose his life later that month on 31 July 1944. |
