Joseph was born on 6 July 1914 at Ottawa, Ontario. His father was born at Glen Nevis, Ontario and worked as an electrician and his mother was born in Ottawa. He had two brothers, S/Ldr. Ernest R. Emond, 413 Sqn. RAF stationed in Ceylon and Sgt. Alfred Emond in Royal Canadian Engineers. There was also a sister Therese. The schools he attended were Guiges 1921-1923 Ottawa, Brebeuf School, 1923-1928 and Mont-De-Lasalle, then Ottawa University 1931-1939 (B.Sc.). The sports he enjoyed were swimming, rugby, skiing and hockey and his hobby was reading. |
Joseph enlisted on 20 June 1940 and after initial training embarked for the U.K. where he arrived on 20 April 1941. He then went on to 12 OTU 26 April 1941 and 142 Squadron on 20 June 1941. Sadly Joseph lost his life on 10 July 1942 having completed 30 operations. |
