Miscellaneous Information
James was born on 27 January 1917 in Semans , Saskatchewan. His mother was born in Wonewoc , Wisconsin and his father , a veterinary surgeon, was born in Brampton, Ontario (he pre-deceased James). His father served in the 1914-1918 war and died at the age of 29 whilst still in service. He was in Lord Strathcona’s Horse Regiment (Royal Canadians). James also had two sisters. The schools James attended were Semans Public 1923-1930 and Semans High 1930-1934. (Jnr, Matric). He also took a Business Course at Gregg College in the April of 1940 studying Shorthand and typing. The sports James enjoyed were riding, skating, hunting and duck shooting. James worked as a Service Station attendant May-October 1935, garage work 1936-1937 as he was needed at home, and for Pigeon Timber Co., Fort William, as a Camp clerk 1939-1940, before enlisting on 12 August 1940 at Toronto. |
After early training he embarked from Canada on 31 July 1941, was at 3 PRC 20 August 1941, and 11 OTU 30 August 1941. |
