Translation "On December 24, 1944 (Christmas Eve) Lancaster Mk III PB255 AR-E2 of 460 (RAAF) Sqn, Bomber Command, flown by pilot F/O M.C. Skarratt was sent for a bombing mission on the German railway junction Nippes near Cologne. The aircraft was attacked by German Nightfighters on the way there and was severely damaged, causing the Pilot to decide to return to his base in England. Having already arrived above Oostelbeers, the Lancaster exploded because the bomb load exploded. Six young Australians and one Englishman were killed." |
