Miscellaneous Information
James was born at Owen Sound, Ontario on 7 October 1920. His father James was a war veteran and retired Transport Agent who was born at Balaclava, Ontario and his mother was born in Armagh, Ireland. Sadly she died in 1932. He had brothers Garfield, Wilson and Jack also two sisters, Marguerite and Helen. He attended the Strathcona School at Owen Sound between 1926-1935 (general) and then Owen Sound Collegiate Vocational Institute 1935-1937 ( Commercial). He then went to the Assumption College in Windsor, Ontario, 1937-1938 (Accounting). His sport interests were basketball, tennis and badminton and his hobby was oil painting. James had numerous jobs and periods of unemployment and between 1937 and 1941 he had six temporary jobs. He started off in 1937 working as a junior clerk for C. P. Express and was then unemployed until 1939. He then worked on and off for two shoe stores until 1940, at Scarrow shoe stores and Agnew Shoes, again as a clerk. He went to Windsor Laundry as a bookkeeper, was then unemployed until becoming a Timekeeper at an Auto specialists, and finally working as a Bookkeeper at Bryant Pattern of Windsor, Ontario. |
James enlisted on 13 January 1942 and after training embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 27 May 1943. He arrived at 3PRC on 5 June 1943 then went to 20 (P) AFU on 6 July 1943, 18 OTU 12 October 1943, 11 Base 22 February 1944 and 12 Squadron 3 May 1944. Sadly James was to lose his life on 29 July 1944 |
