Miscellaneous Information
| Gilbert was born on 1 August 1917 at North Battleford, Saskatchewan. His father was born at Sharbot Lake, Ontario and worked as a C N. Rail conductor and his mother born Tidbone. He attended Connaught School 1923-1931 (public) and then North Battleford Collegiate 1931-1935, High School and Hemphill Diesel school 1936-1937 (diesel mechanics). His sport interests were skiing, softball, skating and tennis and his hobbies shooting and model aircraft. He worked at Rex Grocery, North Battleford as a clerk 1938-1939, for Morrison Motors, Toronto as a student mechanic for 4 months and for C. N. Rail in Toronto as a bridge guard, for three months in 1939. Gilbert enlisted on 28 June 1940. |
| After enlisting and training he embarked from Canada and arrived at 3 PRC on 2 May 1941. He was then at 16 OTU 4 May 1941, 408 Sqn 20 July and finally 44 Squadron. It was from there that Gilbert then sadly lost his life on 1 August 1941. |
