Miscellaneous Information
Richard was born on 2 March 1920 at Calgary, Alberta. Both parents were born in England. His father had worked as a chief clerk before his death in 1941. He had brothers William and Samuel and a sister Margaret. Brother William was a Sub Ltn. In the R.C.N.V.R. The schools he attended were St. Lambert High, 1928-1935, West Hill High, 1935-1940 and Montreal Technical School 1936 1937. The sports he joined in were swimming and rugby, which he enjoyed most, as well as skiing and water polo. He had been in the Sea Scouts. Richard worked at Canadian Car and Foundry, as a draftsman 1937-1938. He then worked as a Bell-hop at Gray Rocks Inn from 1939 onwards. |
After enlisting on 22 June 1940 and having finished his training, Richard embarked from Canada on 18 June 1941 for the U.K. where he arrived on 29 June 1941 at 3 PRC. He was then at 1 S.S. 28 July 1941 and 22 OTU 28 October 1941. Richard was to lose his life the following year on 2 June 1942 from 26 OTU. |
