Miscellaneous Information
Russell was born on 1 September 1923. His mother was born in Nova Scotia but had sadly died in 1926. His father was a farmer, born in Ontario. He had two brothers, Laurence Arthur and Raymond Earl. He attended Parkman S.D. school 1929-1940. Russell worked from home farming at Parkman, Saskatchewan from 1940- 1942 before joining the RCAF. He attended the University of Saskatchewan 1942/1943 where he studied first year agriculture. For sport he enjoyed baseball and hockey and liked shooting and building model aircraft. |
After enlisting on 14 April 1943 and initial training , he was then posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 1 November 1943, then continued to 3(RCAF) PRC on 10 November 1943, 16 OTU 14 December 1943, 51 Base 23 February 1944 and 630 Squadron 25 May 1944. Sadly Russell then lost his life shortly after on 10 June 1944. |
