Miscellaneous Information
On landing, Delieu was surrounded by angry German farmworkers with pitchforks. Sgt 'Nobby' Clarke, who had landed badly nearby and broken an ankle, watched helplessly as the mob set about Delieu and murdered him. They then set about Clarke but thankfully German soldiers arrived in the nick of time and broke up the crowd by firing shots in the air. |
