Reason for Loss | Aircraft took off at 2037hrs. Over the target the port engine was hit and ceased to function. Having turned for home it is rumoured that approximately 50km west of Katwijk the aircraft was attacked by a night fighter flown by Ofw. Wilheim Beir and was known to have ditched in the North Sea. On 16th Sept survivors Bonter (pilot) and Harvey ( bomb aimer) where picked up in a dinghy and taken prisoner. Childs body was later washed ashore. |
