Reason for Loss | Mortally wounded in an attack by a night-fighter and pushed out of the aircraft by the Bomb Aimer and Navigator before they jumped themselves. Cronchey was found, already dead, by the German authorities whereas the other two became PoW. The aircraft returned safely. The pilot, Tony Bird, was awarded an immediate DFC. |
