| Commissioned as Pilot Officer on 14 February 1943, at the conclusion of his flying training at 35 Service Flying Training School (SFTS) in Canada, Thomas was identified as a talented Pilot and was posted to No.1 Flying Instructor School to train as an Instructor. In May 1943 he then went on to 38 SFTS, training intermediate pilots to wings standard. On his return to the UK, with his instructing duty completed, he was posted to 20 Pilot Advanced Flying Unit 3 October 1944, 26 Operational Training Unit 6 March 1945 and finally to 1660 Heavy Conversion Unit on 31 May. |
