Miscellaneous Information
Lost on his 29th trip having flown the first on 1 June 44. He completed 8 trips in the first 14 days of June alone, and he then flew 21 missions in a 2-month period. Had they not been lost on 26/27 Aug it is highly probable they would have flown on one of the other two ops that month, which would mean completing the full tour within 3 calendar months. |
Although all of the crew are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, this is because the team tasked with identifying their graves were denied access in 1949 due to the crash site being in the Russian zone. It is known from German records that they were buried at Frisches Hall, Brandenburg Cemetery, which is now known as Ushakavo. |
