Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born on 9 September 1922 at Fredericton, New Brunswick. His father was born in Fredericton and was a Customs collector and his mother in Kingsclear, New Brunswick. He had four brothers, Royden, Donald, Jack and Stewart and six sisters: Margaret , Gertrude, Barbara, Louise, Mabel and Nancy. He went to the Public School 1929-1939 and also spent three years at night school. He enjoyed swimming and his hobby was woodworking. From 1939 onwards Robert worked for the Neil family who ran a Hardware Store and then he enlisted on 9 October 1940. |
After enlistment and training he was posted to the U.K. and departed from Halifax on 12 December 1942 arriving at 3 PRC on 7 January. He then went to 7 AGS 21 March 1942, 14 OTU 19 May 1942, and 106 Squadron 22 July 1942. Sadly this young man then lost his life on 17 September 1942, having just reached his 20th birthday. |
