Miscellaneous Information
Elmer was born at Saskatchewan on 9 May 1925. Both parents were born in Norway and his father was a farmer. He had two brothers, Norman and Arnold, and two sisters, Clara and Ruby. He went to school at Old Pleasantdale, 1932-1939 followed by Dalevale, Pleasantdale between 1939-1942. His main sport interests were hunting and fishing and he enjoyed building model aircraft as a hobby. Between 1942 - 1943 Elmer worked at home on the family farm. |
After enlisting at Saskatoon on 9 February 1943 and completing his initial training, he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 1 November 1943. He arrived at 3 RCAF (PRC) on 10 November 1943 and continued to 16 OTU on 14 December 1943, 51 Base 29 March 1944 and 619 Squadron on 12 July 1944. Sadly Elmer was to lose his life on 12 September 1944 at the age of just nineteen. |
