Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Kamloops, British Colombia on 21 January 1920. His father was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba and worked as a General Foreman for C.N.R shops and his mother had been born in the USA at Portland, Oregon. He had one married sister, Madge. John attended the following schools: Hamilton Public, Calgary (Jnr), Western Canada High School 1934-1936, Calgary (Junior and Senior Matrics), Victoria High, Edmonton 1936-1938, University of Alberta 1938-1939 studying Arts. Hhe was also, during this time, a Lieutenant in the Canadian Officers Training Corps. He was a high ranking badminton player. He worked at the Department of Public Works, Government of Alberta, as a Rodman and Chainman for four months. |
After enlisting and initial training, John was sent to the U.K. and arrived at 3 PRC 15 April 1942. He went on to 16 OTU 19 May 1942 and 408 Squadron on 10 August 1942. Sadly John lost his life from there just days later on 16 August 1942. |
