Rodney was born at Hartington, Ontario on 31 May 1917. Both parents were born in Hartington where his father was a farmer. He had two sisters Lucille and Gwendolyn. Gwendolyn was married with one daughter and three sons. He attended Hartington Public School 1923-1929 (Entrance) and Sydenham High School 1929-1934 (Snr. Matric). His sport interests were swimming, skiing, rugby, and hockey and his hobby was small game shooting. Rodney worked for D.A. McLeod of Kingston as a truck driver 1936-1937 and then he stayed at home working on his father’s farm between 1937-1940. |
He enlisted on 6 June 1940. No movements are shown in his service record other than 82 OTU to 101 Squadron on 17 April 1944. Mentioned in Despatches January 1944 |
