Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Toronto, Ontario on 29 November 1916. His father was born in America and was an Elevator constructor’s helper and his mother, who was deceased by the time of John's enlistment, was born in Toronto. He attended St. Mary’s Separate School until 1931 (academic) and then Central Technical, Toronto 1931-1934 (Academic and Aircraft Mechanics). His sport interests were hockey and baseball and hobbies were wood and metal work and also photography. Between 1934-1936 he worked doing various odd jobs and was then a truck driver during 1936-1937. He then helped on the presses for the Dominion Paper Box Co. in Toronto for about three months before working for himself as a photographer until 1940. From 1940 onwards until enlistment John worked as a Press Operator. |
He enlisted on 22 April 1941 and after training embarked from New York for the U.K. on 28 February 1942. Arriving at 3PRC on 10 March he then went to 12 OTU on 30 April 1942. John sadly lost his life on 27 September 1942 when he died from injuries after being involved in a road accident, whilst off duty. |
