Miscellaneous Information
James was born at Collingwood, Ontario on 8 June 1925. His parents were both born in Ontario; his father, who worked as a Salesman, at Collingwood, and his mother at Aurora and was deceased by the time of James's enlistment). He had two sisters, Joan and Marion. He attended Dufferin Public School 1931-1939 and then Owen Sound Collegiate Institute, Ontario, from 1939-1943 (grade 10). The sporting activities he enjoyed were rugby, hockey, basketball, soccer and lacrosse and his hobby was making model aircraft. James was a Corporal in the 167th Sqn. Air Cadets at Owen Sound, Ontario between November 1942 and April 1943. He had no full time occupation. |
James enlisted on 14 April 1943 and after initial training embarked from Canada on 20 January 1944 arriving in the U.K. at 3(RCAF) PRC on 1 February 1944. He then continued to 30 OTU 15 February 1944, 11 Base 11 May 1944, 101 Sqn. 1 July 1944, 11 Base 30 July 1944 and 166 Squadron 20 September 1944. Sadly this young man, aged only nineteen, lost his life on the first of February 1945. |
