Charles was born at Hamilton, Ontario on 26 July 1921. Both parents were born at Burton-On-Trent, England and his father worked as a Commercial Traveller for the Toronto Star. He had two sisters Norah and Dorothy and a brother Edward - WO2 Edward Frank RCAF. The schools he attended were A.M.Cunningham, Public School, Hamilton 1927-1935 followed by Hamilton Tech. 1935-1938. Charles enjoyed hockey, baseball and swimming and his hobby was photography. He worked for Reid Press as a Photo Lithographer 1938-1941 and as a machinist for Otis Fensom 1941-1942, both in Hamilton. |
On 21 August 1942 Charles enlisted and after training embarked from Halifax on 25 March 1944. He arrived in the U.K. at 3(RCAF)PRC on 3 April 1944 then went to 6 (0) AFU 18 April 1944, 28 OTU 23 May 1944, 11 Base 6 August 1944 and 101 Squadron 2 October 1944. Charles sadly lost his life on 28 December 1944. |
