Miscellaneous Information
Bernard was born on 9 July 1924 in Toronto. His father was a dentist, born in Kingston, Ontario and his mother born Formosa, Ontario. He had four brothers, Gerard, John, Peter and Paul. The schools he attended were Blessed Sacrament, Toronto 1931-1938, and Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute 1938-1942 (Jnr. Matric). The sports he took part in were hockey, rugby and basketball ball and making model aircraft was his hobby. Bernard worked for Underwood, Elliott & Fisher as an apprentice inspector in 1942. He became a typewriter mechanic. |
After enlisting on 23 July 1942 and undertaking initial training, he embarked for the U.K. where he arrived at 3PRC on 27 November 1943. He was at 15 (P) AFU on 7 March 1944, 17 OTU 30 May 1944, 51 Base 17 August 1944, Scampton 17 August 1944 and 44 Squadron 28 October 1944. |
