Miscellaneous Information
Earl was born on 24 April 1909 at Fernie, British Columbia. His father was a carpenter born in Ontario and his mother, who was deceased by the time of Earl's enlistment, was born in Belgium. He had two sisters, Grace and Marjorie Genevieve. The schools he attended were Ridgeway School between 1917-1925 (general) and North Vancouver High 1925-1927 (grade 10). Earl enjoyed playing softball and rugby. Between 1927 and 1940 Earl worked for himself as a carpenter and a miner and then worked at Island Mountain Mines, Wells, between 1940-1942. He then worked for Nelson Brothers, Fisheries in Vancouver as a Tenderman, 1942-1943. |
On 9 March 1943 Earl enlisted and after initial training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 24 November 1943, reaching 3 (RCAF) PRC on 2 December 1943, 81 OTU 21 December 1943, 30 OTU 31 December 1943, 11 Base 17 April 1944 and 576 Squadron on 8 June 1944. Earl sadly lost his life on 5 July 1944. |
