Miscellaneous Information
Charles was born on 3 January 1923 at Hamilton, Ontario. His father was a soldier and was born at Lachine, Québec and his mother was born in Dublin, Ireland and had sadly died in 1938. He had two sisters, Margaret and also Kathleen who lived at the nurses residence, St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener. He also had a brother Patrick Edward and a baby brother Lionel who had died in England in 1917 aged three days. The schools Charles attended were St. Mary’s, Kitchener , 1929-1936, St. Jerome's Collegiate 1936-1940, and then 1940-1941, Waterloo Collegiate Institute, Kitchener to study drafting, at night school. His sport interests were rugby, basketball, swimming and softball and he was a pianist. During 1940-1941 he worked at the Fountain flower shop and then was a bookkeeper at Imperial Wholesale. During 1941 he was an Electrical Shipper at Ellis and Howard and was then a Pay Clerk at Merchants Rubber Company until enlisting on 28 March 1942. |
After training Charles embarked from New York on 27 June 1943, arriving at 3 PRC on 8 July 1943. He then went to 30 OTU on 31 August 1943, 1662 CU, 30 November 1943, 11 Base 19 January 1944 and 166 Squadron on 3 April 1944. Sadly, Charles then lost his life from 166 Squadron on 28 June 1944. |
