Miscellaneous Information
John was born on 30 April 1925 at Castor, Alberta. Both parents were born In Ontario, his father in Muskoka and mother in Uptergrove. He had three brothers, Robert Bertram, William Maxwell and Blair Francis. There were also two sisters , Sheilah and Beaulah. John went to Castor School 1930-1939 (grade 9) and Theresetta Separate School 1939-1941 (grade 11) - High school entrance and junior Matric. The sport he enjoyed was hockey. He was employed in general garage work 1941-1942 and then worked as a Shift Chemist for an oil refinery from 1942 until enlistment. |
After enlisting on 5 December 1942 and early training John embarked from Halifax on 30 March 1944 arriving at 3 PRC on 8 April 1944. From there he went to 21 (P) AFU. 25 April 1944, 18 OTU 4 July 1944, 11 Base 22 September 1944 and 550 Squadron on 5 January 1945. Ssadly John was to die from here whilst still only nineteen years old. |
