John was a native of Tonypandy, Glamorgan, Wales and born on 18 October 1916. He attended Stoke School in Coventry and until enlisting on 1 November 1939, worked as a Finisher at the Standard Motor Co. Ltd. During his RAF career he had taken part in one of the 1,000 bomber raids and carried out 36 operational flights. All six crew members were lost and all are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial; Sergeant B J Bradsell, Sergeant L S Bridges, Sergeant H V Howes, Sergeant E T W Lamloitt and Sergeant N C Reinelt. Locally his family paid for a plaque and tree in Stoke Heath presumably this was at the advice of Coventry Corporation who advised families to dedicate trees in the local vicinity. |
