Miscellaneous Information
George was born on 19 March 1922 at Toronto, although his parents hailed from New Jersey, USA. His father worked as a labourer and was born in Ireland, and his mother also born in Ireland. He had one sister Doreen. Born in Canada of Irish parents, George had lived continuously in America for the past eighteen years. The schools George attended were William Raupp 1927-1936 (General) and Lincoln Park 1936-1940 (General). High School entrance and Jnr. Matric. The only sport he took an interest in was hockey and he enjoyed horseback riding. He worked at American Type Founders , New Jersey were he was a pattern maker’s apprentice between 1940-1942 before enlisting on 15 July 1942. |
George embarked from Halifax on 16 June 1943, after his initial training and arrived at 3 PRC on 24 June 1943. He was at 81 OTU on 6 July 1943, 1667 CU 9 September 1943, and at 460 Squadron on 18 July 1943. |
