Reason for Loss | Evening Despatch October 9th 1940: "DROWNED R.A.F. MAN MYSTERY. A verdict of death by drowning was recorded today at an adjourned Westminster inquest on Alfred Amrstrong, aged 27, R.A.F. mechanic, whose body had been recovered from the Thames near the Houses of Parliament. He had been absent without leave for five days. A Thames policeman said that Armstrong's cap and respirator had not been found. His home was at Middlesbrough." |
