Miscellaneous Information
Born on 1 March 1921, in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Tiflis, Russia and worked as a machinist and his mother was also born in Russia. He was one of six children having two sisters, Mary and Ann and three brothers, Walter, Nicholas and John. Michael went to Strathcona Public School between 1927-1930, Sir Alex.Mackenzie 1930-1935 and John Oliver High 1935-1937 (grade 10). He also attended War Emergency Training Programme. Tech, school between December 1941 and March 1942 on a pre-entry course. For employment Michael worked at Queen Charlotte Fisheries as a cutter between 1937 and 1939, then at Westminster Shook Mills as a machine operator 1940-41 and also as a helper at Smith Sheet Metal 1941- December 1941. |
On 18 March 1942 Michael enlisted in Vancouver and after training he Embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 28 March 1943. He arrived at 3 PRC on 5 April 1943, 15 (P) AFU 8 June 1943, and 20 OTU on 17 August 1943. |
His hobby was metal working and he liked to hunt and fish. |
