Miscellaneous Information
Walter was born on 5 May 1919 at Simcoe City, Ontario. His father, who died in 1938, was born in Ontario and had been a farmer and his mother was born at Bond Head, Toronto. He had four sisters, three of whom were married and Evelyn Mary and also three brothers, Lloyd, Roger and corporal C.E Andrews in RCAF, Saskatchewan. The schools he attended were S.S. No.11, Beeton , Ontario. 1926-1931 (High School Entrance) and Northern Vocational School, January-March 1941 (Machine shop). Walter occasionally played baseball and his hobby was the radio. He worked for Mr. John Andrews, at Beeton, Ontario, on the farm, 1931-1941 and then for the Transport Supply Co., Toronto, machine shop from 1941 onwards. |
Walter enlisted on 6 August 1942 and after training embarked for the U.K.. He arrived at 3 PRC on 12 May 1943, then went to 14 OTU 25 May 1943, 1654 CU 14 July 1943 and arrived at 57 Squadron on 19 August 1943. On 29 January 1944, Walter sadly lost his life. |
