Miscellaneous Information
Chester was born on 20 October 1924 at Sault St. Marie, Ontario. His parents were both born in Sault St. Marie and his father was a Tinsmith, his mother having died in 1937. He had two married sisters, Virginia and Ruth and a brother Wesley Henry who was a Pilot Officer in RCAF. The schools he attended were: S.S.M Public 1935-1938 followed by Technical and Commercial, S.S.M. 1938-1940. His sport interests were hockey, baseball and basketball and photography was his hobby. Chester undertook odd jobs 1940-1941 and then an office job 1941-1942 at Beaver Lumber Co. He also worked at Northern Foundry, draughting, was a labourer at Algoma steel plant and worked as a second cook for Algoma Central between 1942-1943. |
He enlisted on 1 March 1943 and after training embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 16 June 1944. He arrived at 3PRC on 25 June and then went to 3(0) AFU 25 July 1944, 3PRC again on 29 August 1944 and 22 OTU on 19 September 1944. |
