Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born in Toronto on 18 June 1924. They lived in Cumberland Street, Toronto. His father was born in Rothesay, Scotland and worked as a railway man for C.P.R. His mother was born in Liverpool, England and had died in 1938. He had a married sister Dorothy and two brothers Grant William (11) and Alexander who had already been wounded in the war by the time of Robert's enlistment. Robert attended Jesse Ketchum Public School 1929-1938 (Entrance) and Central Technical High School 1938-1939 (part 1st year). Between 1940 -1942, he worked as a machine tender for Canada Glazed Paper. He enjoyed most sports. |
Robert enlisted on 14 July 1942 and after training embarked from Halifax on 16 June 1943, arriving in the U.K. at 3PRC on 24 June 1943. This was followed by 81 OTU 6 July 1943, 1662 CU 14 September 1943 and 626 Squadron 18 November 1943. |
