Born 24 August 1912. His father was a pattern maker and was born 27 November 1883 in Greenock, Scotland. His mother Janet ‘Jennie’ Rodger Ptolomey was born 25 February 1890 in Port Glasgow, Scotland. They were married on 24 September 1909 in Greenock. They had fours sons: John ‘Jack’ Aitken born 24 Aug 1912 Greenock, Scotland; Rodger Aitken born 23 May 1916; Wallace Lyle Aitken born 17 November 1918 and William Aitken born 27 June 1910, all born Greenock, Scotland. |
His brother, Wallace Aitken also served in the RAF and moved to Canada in 1952, where he had a daughter Enid Aitken. |
