Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born on 21 April 1920. He had three brothers, Donald, Terry and Paddy, also a sister Joan and they lived in Innisfree, Alberta. He attended Innisfree Public School September 1926 - June 1928, Winnipeg school September 1928- June 1929 and Innisfree HIgh School September 1931 - June 1939. During the 1936 summer holidays Robert worked for a garage carrying out general duties, and then farm work in the 1937/8 holidays for a Mr. Dinsdale of Fishbourne and more farm work for a Mr, Fisher. |
He enlisted on 27 June 1940 and after his early training embarked for the U.K. arriving at 3 PRC in Bournemouth on 19 April 1941. He went through the various units including 10 OTU on 26 April , 102 Sqn., 19 OTU until reaching 83 Squadron on 29 December 1943. |
Robert enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, soft ball, golf, hunting and field sports such as High Jump. His hobby was collecting birds eggs, watching migrating birds and telegraphy. |
