Reason for Loss | Lincolnshire Echo, 10 September 1943: SHOT SERGEANT At the inquest held by Capt. R. H. Helmer (coroner for Louth district), at a Lincolnshire RAF station into the death of Sgt. Arthur Frederick Ward (23), a London man who was found dead on the previous day with a gun beside him, a medical officer at the station stated that Ward had not enjoyed good health recently, and other witnesses described how the body was found in a building on the airfield. The Coroner found that Ward had died from gunshot wounds and a verdict was returned that he took his life while the balance of his mind was disturbed. |
