Reason for Loss | Killed during an incident during which his close freind, air gunner Sgt. James Finbar Buckley, aimed a Sten gun in his direction during horseplay, the gun having discharged and killed Reed. During Buckley's trial for murder, the jury accepted that he had never meant to harm his close friend and found him not guilty of either murder or manslaughter. In his summary, it was clear that Mr. Justice Singleton, presiding, did not think that Buckley should have got off scot-free. Buckley fainted in the dock on hearing the verdict. |
