Reason for Loss | On 15th August 1940 there was a German air raid on Driffield airfield. At approximately midday, around 50 Ju 88 bombers attacked the aerodrome, killing 13 military personnel and 1 civilian, and destroying 12 Whitley aircraft. The 169 bombs dropped caused extensive damage, with many buildings, including all five hangars, being either damaged or destroyed. AC2 Horton was injured and died about three months later. |
