Reason for Loss | Killed when F/O Reynolds's Lancaster G-George crashed on take-off after two engines cut. The aircraft crashed into two ground staff, Sgt. Parker and Sgt Hobba, the latter being slightly injured. Ironically, Sgt. Parker was killed by the aircraft he serviced himself. The Squadron Summary of Events records that F/O Reunolds showed great initiative by kicking away burning incendiaries and then went looking for the rear gunner who was some distance awayt from the crash site and badly injured. He was take to RAF Hospital Rauceby and survived the incident. It also states that the Cookie bomb rolled away from the crash and did not go off. |
