Reason for Loss Lincolnshire Echo November 14th 1941: "Fatally Injured On Raod Near Lincoln. A verdict of 'Accidental death' was recorded by the Coroner (Mr. H. J. J. Griffith) at the inquest last night at the County Hospital on Joseph Doncich (21), and aircraftman, whose home is at Heathwood Road, Cardiff, and who was knocked off his bicycle on Ermine Street, near Horncastle Lane, after dark on November 11. Evidence was given that Doncich was riding from Lincoln when he was hit by a car travelling in the same direction and driven by Archibald Miller, of Cliff Garage, Welton. Miller stated that the night was a bad for driving and he was doing only about 20 m.p.h. He suddenly saw the cyclist almost in fron of the car. He swerved, but hit the cycle and saw the rider fall clear. Dr. A. M. Glen, house surgeon at the County Hospital, said death was due to a fractured skull. It was state that the police examined the cycle and found that the battery in the front lamp also provided power for the rear llight, and it was in a run down condition. It was doubtful the rear light had been anything but very weak.
