Reason for Loss | Lincolnshire Echo September 18th 1941: "Walkers Should Keep to Footpath. Verdict of "Death by Misadventure" was returned yesterday at an inquest at Bracebridge Heath, Lincoln, yesterday, on A/C.2 Victor Allman (41), married, whose home was at Norwich, and who received fatal injuries when knocked down by a car on the Lincoln-Nettleham road on Saturday night. The jury exonerated from blame the driver of the car, Thomas Kininmonth Dundas, of Scothern, and added a rider that pedestrians should again be warned to walk on the footpath and not on the road. L/A.C. Allen Redfearn said at about 10.5 he and five others, including Allman, left the Brown Cow Hotel, at Nettleham, and started to walk along the road hoping to catch a bus. Dundas said he had driven a car for 20 years without an accident. He had two sidelights and masked headlight. He saw the men too late to avoid the accident. His beam of light was only about 15 yards. He was driving about 20 m.p.h. Medical evidence was that Aircraftman Allman died from shock resulting from injuries which included fractures of both legs. |
